Assistant Director

Catholic Charities of Louisville - Migration and Refugee Services

Layne grew up in the mountains of North Carolina and had a love for communities in need from an early age. She traveled to Honduras many times, learning to love people from different cultures and languages who had very little to offer except love and friendship. This is where she gained a love for Spanish and decided to dedicate time learning the language so she could communicate better and make non-English speakers feel a little more comfortable and welcome.

She started working at the resettlement agency 4 years ago. Her love of language, culture, and the people who bring so much good to Louisville brought her to Catholic Charities of Louisville. She is now the Assistant Director of Migration and Refugee Services (MRS) and loves seeing the impact our families make in the community. In 2021, she started working with the Youth Team at MRS where she learned more about the impact of common barriers found within refugee and immigrant youth education and how agencies, teachers, and schools can work together to provide much needed services to help with kids overcome these challenges. She worked her way up into her current role with the help of advisors and mentors who helped her grow.

Layne has learned over the years that the best way to support refugee and immigrant families is through communication, collaboration, and education. She has spent a large part of her career at MRS developing new programs and teams. She especially loves working with young employees who want to grow within the company and embrace their leadership potential. Layne believes that everyone has the opportunity and ability to become a leader if they have the desire to learn and have the right people walking alongside them and supporting them.
